What to say about Singapore? Expensive. The hotel accidentally stole my teddy. Universal Studios was fun.
I flew to Singapore from Cambodia because I thought I wanted some western-ness. What I got was a super charged Asia at Western prices.
I stayed in a hotel on Geylang Road, which overlooked the bizzaar. Completely different to the night markets of Thailand, the food was something else entirely. So much cheese, and strange things with sprinkles.
I chilled out on my first day, slept in and used the pool, and got the metro to Gardens by the Bay. I walked around both the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest and got instantly frustrated with the amount of tourists and how slowly they walked.
I didn't have as much of a problem with this as Universal Studios the next day. I got in and straight away spent extra money on the unlimited express pass. I wasn't about to wait around in queues (although in the morning there were some small queues).
Universal Studios holds very fond memories: Florida, 2005, and the first holiday I remember ever spending time with my dad on. Just me and him. My mum and sister weren't going on the rollercoasters so dad joined me. On our first one together he said he hadn't ever been on a big rollercoaster like it before and that he was probably fine despite the hear that condition. For the whole way round I thought he was going to die. But he loved it and we set our own personal record of riding on revenge of the mummy 23 times in 2 days. Just me and him running up the single rider queue, sometimes even getting into the same carriage. My dads giggles bring joy to my heart. That was a great holiday.
A month later I realised I had had a headache every single day for a month and that was the beginning of my chronic migraine. Mum was always convinced the rollercoasters had done something.
Anyway. In order of most fun:
1. revenge of the mummy
2. transformers 3D
3. BSG: Cylon
4. Jurassic Park rapids
5. Puss in Boots
In order of best technical/most clever design
1. Transformers 3D
2. BSG: Cylon
3. Revenge of the Mummy
4. Jurassic Park Rapids
5. BSG: Human
I managed 10 rides on Revenge of the Mummy. Worth the unlimited express pass just for that.
The parade was cancelled I assume because it started raining not long after it was supposed to start, but the Waterworks stunt show was the last event of the day. A world where there's no dry land anymore was the loose narrative for people pretending to be shot and falling backwards into water, and for a variety of boats and jet skis that could soak the audience. Oh and of course the big tank that said FUEL had to set alight at the end.
My last day I sunbathed, swam, napped, order takeaway to my hotel room. It was awesome. That was Singapore.
