Born(eo) in the UK

Sarawak,  aka Borneo,  is a strange strip of an island that's neighboured by Indonesia and Brunei.  It's famous for monkeys,  so I came to see monkeys.

When I arrived,  I walked around to get lunch before I could check in. Found an amazing place with a happy hour and in 2 hours I had 4 beers and when I got into my room I passed out for 3 hours.

My first full day, I took the bus to Bako National Park.  I quickly realised this was not my kind of place,  and after a short trek that seemed to go nowhere and a few proboscis monkey sightings I came back.  My highlight was the boat ride to park,  where we saw a fish that swam in the mud like they were walking on land.  Coooool.

Second full day I found it nigh on impossible to get breakfast.  Like,  a normal breakfast. They love eggs here, and at one place when I tried to explain to the woman I don't eat eggs she literally responded "I don't understand you don't like eggs".  Yes there's a language barrier, but it took me back to Texas and "why you no like the cheese? ". If I was a Muslim here I'd have no problem - even McDonald's is Halal.  (except it is Ramadan right now,  I know because there's a Mosque directly across the river and I'm sure it hasn't switched off this whole time)  (the chanting can actually be quite soothing).

Anyway,  after two hash browns from McDonald's,  I went back to my room to contemplate.  I updated my blogs with pictures, and then came out to the place I had lunch my first day.  Why mess with a good thing?

You want to know what's impossible here?  Public transportation. It exists,  but you'll be lucky to find it. After multiple searches on the internet and wandering the streets,  I was unable to find somewhere to get the bus from to Semengoh reserve.  So I ordered a Grab.  And got there at 1.40 when they don't open until 2.

The reserve was lovely.  Couldn't help but think those orangutans were posing but hey,  they know when feeding time is and when they're supposed to be there.  You can motivate most living beings with food,  right?

My last day I meant to go to the museum. Instead,  everytime I went to leave the restaurant it was raining,  so I got another beer.  Eventually I got to the airport,  5 beers in,  and got mad because one place had stopped doing plain rice but not chicken rice.  How?  The woman explained that they had chicken rice,  which was rice with chicken.  So I asked, can I not just get rice?
No.  The rice was finished.  I could get rice with chicken.  A well meaning man tried to explain the same thing to me.  I gave you I got soup somewhere else.

So.  Granary Restaurant,  I loves you.  Semengoh, that was awesome.  Bako,  you're not my thing. Borneo, it was an experience.
